I remember when plasma TVs came along and the era of the projection TVs was over people were constantly trying to sell them on Craigslist with no success.

A little reminder of how quickly technology evolves. That Trinitron weighed 440 lbs.

ok that’s super cool. The closest thing to this now are the new short throw projectors.

We had a beta max as I was a kid, nothing as cool as this setup though.
I still remember my dad (a heavy duty mechanic/millwright by trade) praise the superiority of beta vs vhs, I’m happy knowing it was true.
The sad part was I could see the annoyance in him going to the rental place and the beta section get smaller and smaller.
I think it broke him a little, and I never seen him care about a new technology at that level ever again.Â

Jesus, I used to date someone whose mom had one of these in her bedroom.

Reminds me of [that scene](https://youtu.be/7HI9cWk2xmA?si=2jo1QDx9iC_1iTcm&t=16) in Goodfellas where Karen and Henry are showing off their new house to Belle and Morty and Karen uses a remote control to open a(n obviously fake) rock wall to reveal a sad little TV and bar set up.
It’s not so much that the TV is small and it’s just a bar area, it’s the fact that the whole idea is so cheesy and completely unimpressive, but Karen can’t see that.
Of course, that’s the point. Among many other things, Goodfellas is about how these guys’ whole world is ultimately shallow and sad, but they’re convinced their lives are worthy of envy.

Nice rig! My friend’s dad had a projection TV like that in the early 80s. We watched his porno tapes on it 😅
